If today was the first day in your body, what would you do?
The Sensing Self is a movement education space and community in Rotterdam where we stay in constant discovery of what it means to live in a body.
By practicing together and being invested in each other's growth , we are engaging in a radical experience in this day and age - an embodied and connected life.
"Not only did I learn and train new ways to move, but I really loved practicing outside together with a wonderful group of people. These lessons inspire me to apply these concepts in daily life."
- Roxane, on group practice
An integrated practice where we study fundamental movement behaviours like body organisation and transmitting force; core coordinative abilities like balance, reaction and differentiation; broad fields like athletics, acrobatics, fighting and dance; specific skills like precision jumps, hand-balancing and sustaining attention; and concepts like affordances, and attractor states - all through a unified Human Movement lens and practiced in cycles.

Structured capacity-building practice that focuses on keeping our bodies ready and adaptable. It is not a "regular" conditioning class. We work on using energy efficiently, breath & movement mechanics, building strength and mobility with joy and sensitivity. As an all-year-round outdoor class, it teaches us how to meet all weather conditions and cultivate a resilient practice.

How we practice
The classes are structured and physically engaging, while always leaving room to adjust intensity and explore creatively. People of many ages and physical backgrounds are a part of this community, feeling both challenged and supported.

We focus on honest effort, quality of attention, and process over performance.

Our practice is grounded in Marcello Palozzo's Movimentica system, which studies human movement across six domains: dance, inner work, athletics, acrobatics, fighting and physical preparedness.
Throughout the year, we develop skills and knowledge in all six domains, but also focus on understanding fundamental principles of movement in general and getting a wholesome understanding of our bodies and physical experience.

Our Rotterdam community is a warm group of open-minded people celebrating diversity across cultures, generations, and identities.

Globally, The Sensing Self is a part of the Human Movement Studies network and a worldwide community of practitioners with a vision of a radical physical education for the 21st century.
Join the next group practice cycle
We practice in dedicated cycles to build real progress and group trust. Our current cycle is ongoing.
If this work resonates and you want to learn within a close-knit community, leave your email to get notified about our November Discovery Week and the upcoming cycle registration.
Alongside group cycles, a limited capacity is reserved for 1-on-1 practice. These sessions focus on tailored physical trajectories, movement research, or learning how to structure an autonomous self-practice and organise materials for teaching. Available to current members and serious external applicants by inquiry.

"Valeryia helps you understand and apply what you learn on your own. Completing this journey made me a better mover but also gave me a lot of understanding about myself on an emotional, mental, and physical level."
